The fragile environment of Île-à-Vache

Île-à-Vache is a beautiful place, but its ecosystem is fragile, and water is scarce and precious. Most residents still do not have access to quality drinking water. At Suites la Colline, we try to protect the environment and minimize the ecological impact of our hotel business in various ways. For example, we only use rainwater, which we collect, especially in October and May. Water consumption that may seem normal in other places risks leading to a shortage in our country in the near future.

Additionally, hot water is produced by solar water heaters. This approach is environmentally friendly, but the amount of hot water produced is limited. When solar heating becomes insufficient, the water is heated using electricity produced by a generator.

The following behaviors are essential to conserve water (and hot water) and we would appreciate your compliance:

Take short showers (turn on the tap, get wet, turn off the tap, soap up, turn on the tap, rinse off, turn off the tap)

Reserve hot water for washing long hair and young children (Caution! The water is very hot!)

Do not flush the toilet after only urinating (this is a bit embarrassing to mention but it is very important because toilets use an immense amount of water)

Do not leave the water running while brushing your teeth

Reuse towels as much as possible (we will replace towels left on the floor)

We thank you for graciously accepting these small inconveniences which will make a big difference for the environment and which will allow sustainable tourism on Île-à-Vache.
